As part of the UK government’s ‘Global Britain’ initiative, Home Secretary Priti Patel on 1st July 2021 launched a new immigration route which will allow international students to get their careers into motion in the UK after graduating from a UK university.
This new graduate route provides an opportunity for talented international graduates who have been awarded a degree from a UK university to stay and work or look for work within the UK at any skill level for at least two years.
The new route, which is part of the points based immigration system, is slated to help attract the best talent from across the world. It will also help businesses recruit the most qualified employees to complement the skills already in the UK. Providing a stimulus to drive the UK economy forward, as it builds up from the pandemic.
The graduate route is available across the UK, bringing chances across the Isles, and allowing them to benefit from those with the skills who wish to make their careers in the UK.
On this new and positive initiative, Home Secretary, Priti Patel acknowledged the role the UK’s higher education institutions play in welcoming thousands of international students every year, she highlighted that the new initiative would play a vital role in attracting talented young people across the globe to the UK .
The move has received the support of universities and UK Council For International Student Affairs.
